loving home for scottish terrier

I have a male scotty who has a hyper thyroid. I no longer can afford to pay for the test he has to go though in order to keep in on the medicine the vet gives him. The medicine does not cost too much but the test does. He has no hair except around his head and some on his legs. I was told that the medicine would help his hair grow back but after a year of being on it he still has no hair. With out the meds he is slugish and slow. But I can not afford all the test, and without the test the vet will not give me any more meds.. The meds. does help him but his hair just won't grow back. I really do not want to but him asleep. He is a very loving dog and listens very well. He is in good health otherwise. please help me find a home for him. My kids do not want me to put him asleep. They are the ones who ask me to find him someone to take him.
